அக்கம் பக்கம் பார்க்கவும்
1905ல் பிரசுரம் ஆன நூல் ஒன்று படிக்க நேர்ந்தது. சுவரொட்டியின் பாமரகீர்த்தியை அருமையாக செப்பியது. அதில் இருந்த படம் ஒன்று என்னை கவர்ந்தது. மயிலேறி வெளிச்சம் பாய்ச்சுகிறானொருவன். அது ஆதவனின் சூட்டை பிடித்து எரிக்கும் பூதக்கண்ணாடியல்ல போலும்! அவனது பிரகாசத்தைப் பிரிதிபலிக்கும் பாதரசம் தடவிய கண்ணாடி. சுவரொட்டிகள் அந்த மாதிரி தான். அவை கையொப்பத்தை போல தனித்துவம் வாய்த்தவை. ஒன்றை போல் மற்றொன்று இல்லை, விளம்பர சுவரொட்டிகளாக இருந்தாலும். எஸ்.கே. கூக்கா என்ற படைப்பாளர் சிகரம் ஒருவர் இருந்தார். ஏர் இந்தியா/அமுல் நிறுவனங்களுக்காக, அவர் எழுதிய ‘ஒரு வரியும் ஒரு படமும்’ ஆன சுவரொட்டிகள் அபாரம். தினந்தோறும் மும்பையில் மலபார் ஹில்ஸ் பிரதேசத்தில் நடை பயிலுபவர்கள் நின்று பார்த்து, நாள் முழுதும் அதே சிந்தனையில் ஆழ்ந்திருப்பார்கள்.
புதுக்கோட்டையில் எமது இல்லத்தில் ஒரு அருமையான ராமர் பட்டாபிஷேக சுவரொட்டி, வரையப்பட்டிருந்தது. காலாகாலத்தில் அதை காப்பாற்ற முயன்றதெல்லாம் விழலுக்கு இறைத்த நீராயிற்று. அந்த மாதிரி கோயில் சிற்பங்கள், ஓவியங்கள், ஏட்டுச்சுவடிகள் எல்லாம் சுவரொட்டிகள் தாம். சந்தேஹம் வேண்டாம். திரு அல்லிக்கேணி அருள்மிகு பார்த்தசாரதி பெருமாள் கோயில் நுழைவாயிலில் சுவாமி விவேகானந்தர் சிஷ்யகோடி அழகியசிங்கருக்கு எழுதிய கடிதம் ஒரு கல்வெட்டாக இருக்கிறது. அதை படிக்காமல் உள்ளே போனால், பெருமாள் உம்மை கவனிக்க மாட்டார்.
இரண்டாம் யுத்தகாலகட்டத்தில் காகித பஞ்சம். பிரசுரங்கள் பாதிக்கப்பட்டன. கோட்டா, கீட்டா எல்லாம் சுதந்திர வாஞ்சையை கட்டிப்போட நினைத்தன. எமது படைப்பாற்றலை அரசு புரிந்து கொண்டு தடியெடுக்கும் முன் சுவரொட்டிகள் ஒட்டினோம். ஆகஸ்டு 6. 1944 அன்று விபரீதத்துக்கு பயந்து அண்ணல் காந்தி விடுதலை செய்யப்பட்டதைப் பற்றி சுவரொட்டி இயக்கம் நடத்தினோம் என்பது மங்கலாக நினைவில் இருக்கிறது. சில வேடிக்கைகள். பிரிட்டீஷ் சாம்ராஜ்ய அபிமானிகள் ரகசியமாக செலவை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டனர். எங்கள் ஆஸ்தான பாடகரான ஒச்சத்தேவன் அருமையாக சித்திரமும் வரைவான். பிரமலை கள்ளர் ஹாஸ்டல் தான் எங்கள் பாசறை. அக்காலம், உசிலம்பட்டி சின்ன ஊர். ஊரெங்கும் எங்கள் சுவரொட்டிகள் பளீரென ஜால் அடிக்கும். ஒரு வாசகம் மறக்கவில்லை.
“ தண்டலெடுத்து எம்மை அடக்க நினைக்காதே, பரங்கி துரையே!
கண்டபடி விரட்டாதே, கலைக்டர் ஐயா!
ராஜாவை மீட்டு விட்டாய், அரண்மனையிலிருந்து.
கூஜா தூக்க உனக்கு ஆளில்லை, பரங்கி துரையே.”
தப்பு இருக்கலாம். ஆனால், திருத்திக்கொடுத்தது இன்ஸ்பெக்டர் ராமய்யர். அது ஒரு காலம்.
சுவரொட்டிகள் மேலும், மேலும் ஒட்டப்படும், வாசகர்கள் வேண்டாம் என்றால் ஒழிய.
