இங்கிலாந்தின் ஆஸ்தான வித்துவான் லார்ட் டென்னிசன் 1864ல் ஏழாயிரம் சொற்களில் எழுதிய எழுதிய நீண்ட அமர காவியம் இது. ஓவியம், இசை நாடகம், நாடகம், புதினம், பல சினிமாக்கள் என கலை உலகை ஆட்டிப்படைத்த கவிதை இது. உசிலம்பட்டியில் எட்டாம் வகுப்பு பாடங்கள் ~Enoch Arden, Sohrab & Rustum, Hiawatha, You Know We Stormed Ratisbon, Home They Brought The Warrior Dead ~ சாலமன் சாருக்கு பாடம் எடுக்கும் போது குரல் கம்மும். வீட்டில் பாடம் எடுக்கும் அப்பாவுக்கு கண்ணீர் மல்கும். அத்தகைய உணர்ச்சி வெள்ளத்தில் மிதந்து கவிதை படித்தோம். ஐயகோ! மணிமேகலையை இப்படி கற்றுக்கொள்ளும் வாய்ப்பு கிட்டவில்லையே. 

ரோமியோ~ ஜூலியட், அனார்கலி~ சலீம், அம்பிகாபதி̀~இளவரசி எல்லாம் சராசரி காதல் இலக்கியங்கள். ஈனாக் ஆர்டன் சொல்லிலடங்கா காதல் காவியம். கவிதையின் சொல் ஒவ்வொன்றும் நன்முத்துக்கள். பத்தாயிரம் சுவரொட்டிகளுக்குத் தேவையான நீண்ட, உயரமான மதில்களை அமையுங்கள். எல்லாவற்றையும் மொழியாக்கம் செய்யலாம். இப்போதைக்கு மூன்று சுவரொட்டிகளில் (2,3,4) ரத்னச்சுருக்கம்.
